Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. The traits she displayed were normal for a child born in Ireland, surrounded by gifted parents and a loving family. Maureen made her entrance into this caring haven on the 17th of August 1920, in Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was a contralto. His father, Charles FitzSimons, managed an enterprise in Dublin as well as owned a part of the well-known Irish soccer team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen FitzSimons placed second from a family of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this gorgeous group. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and participated in rough, competitive games as a child. The combination of this natural interest and her talent in performing was astonishing. She was awarded nearly all Feis Award for Theatre and Drama which her nation had to offer. When she turned 14, she was accepted into the world-renowned Abbey Theater and pursued her dreams of classical theatre and operatic singing.
