
Jennifer has always dreamed of becoming a multi-tasking celebrity. In her youth she indulged in a wide range different musical styles, but mainly Afro-Caribbean styles like salsa merengue and bachata. She also enjoyed popular music such as pop hip-hop, rap and R&B. Although she loved movies, the music industry was also a fascination for her. The most influential film she was influenced by was the Rita Moreno musical, West Side Story (1961). At 5, Jennifer began taking singing and dancing lessons. Jennifer as well as being an entertainer and a Catholic schoolgirl, was a student for eight years at Holy Family Catholic elementary school in The Bronx. After a four-year stay in the Bronx, she graduated from Preston High School, an all-girls prep school. Jennifer performed well in the sports department at school and competed in tennis and the track and field. She spent most of her raising her children in a two-story home within the Castle Hill neighborhood. Jennifer moved out of her parents' house at age 18 and moved out. At the time, Lopez worked at a law firm and took dance classes at night.
